Prisoners of Flesh

Prisoners of Flesh

A Poem by Ezekiel Silver
"

Year poem was written: 2012

"

Our spirits have become chained by greed and lust,

             starving for love and joy.

We are left with a bottomless hole in our hearts,

             unable to fill it.

Hatred and anger will never quench our thirst,

             only increase it.

Sorrow has become our soul's dungeon walls,

             faith in God now neglected.

Our very humanity has been stripped away from us,

             locked away by Death.

We have been beaten until we are nothing more than,

             prisoners of flesh.

I think you greatly expressed this feeling we all have from time to time: The burning desire, a longing for something, a need we cannot even name, for something more perhaps, but without knowing what we are looking for, we cannot meet the demand.
It is that hunger that destroys us, eats us up from the inside.
That's what I feel when I read your poem, and I really like the way you phrased it. Seems like everything sounds just right, and it flows incredibly well.

Our spirit's needs can never be filled as long as our bodies keep them prisoner.
