An Unlikely Tale

Well she loved him

And he loved her

They both just loved them

Not knowing they both had feelings

And silent in fear to tell

And because of this, what they didn’t know then

They’d be dead in the end

She felt alone

And to that blade she was prone

The blood drips down her arm

She waited by the phone with her self-harm

But time did fall

And it seemed he’s never call

And she only made the wounds deeper

He felt alone

And to the bottle he was prone

Another bottle downed

He waited by the phone alcohol drowned

But time did wane

And her call never came

He only became less sober

Friends since third grade

Back in the day

When all this was easier

But into their teen years

All the misery and fears

Of nothing but their secret love they were sure

Always together, rarely apart

Never more than arms length away

But keeping from admitting their thoughts

Had a pretty little price to pay

They both had no friends

Tortured at both ends

Parents either didn’t care

Or were never there

Or gave them abusive care

They were called wrong even when right

Hardly worth to try and fight

School was near an end

Though some time was to fend

Their fake smiles you could see through

Knowing in their heads nothing more seemed true

And after so much pain

Still more came

A death in her family

She ran into the woods

As far as she could

And sat down against a tree

She wondered “why me?”

And wondered why they couldn’t be

Though she was to blind to see

I guess ironically

He sat on the other side of that tree

Though they didn’t know they were there

Not knowing, but still together in their despair

He heard her saddened call

And heard the tears start to fall

He felt and understood it all

He walked around the tree and it was her he saw

He held her tight as the ravens caw

The pain they felt, an unnatural law

This tale is almost to a finish

Though their hope does not replenish

Soon is their own demise

Something brutal they both did devise

One more day left to bear

Though their happiness made people stare

Their bad thoughts were unsure

But soon they weren’t to learn

That night they spent together

Since they were so alone

She almost told him

And he almost told her

They almost kissed

And they almost were together

And they almost would have stayed alive

Almost is an empty evil word

She ran off to the woods again

Later the next night

She had no more time to spend

No longer would she see light

She had a surprise in her pocket

And a gift he had gave her, a locket

Inside was a picture of them

But it was stuck and she would never know

Her cuts ached and burns

For a final one she yearned

“He doesn’t love me…”

If only she would have known

She had cuts on her arms and legs

And that knife to her throat

Little did she know that because of this

Later he would be in the same boat

She called his number

But we hasn’t there

She left him a message

He never had a chance

He heard it soon and ran

To stop what was her plan

He saw her lying there

In the moonlights stare

Too late now

She was gone

Though he saw her note

Everything she never said

That’s what she wrote

He couldn’t bear to be apart

So he was ready to join her

He kissed her cold lips

And wiped away her blood tears

If only he would have asked

Something in his invisible past

He held her hand and took that knife

No second thoughts to find

Only to see her in the afterlife

Still their souls to bind

His first was as well his last

And next to her he lay

Dead and alone under the night

But still together at least…..

days before someone found them

With his note written with hers

Maybe someone would see their story

Though no one missed them even

Their blood ran together

And even though this

One things amazing

They now had happiness

A sad tale

Seemingly unlikely too

But what if I hadn’t told you

Would this be me and you?

They thought they had no friends

And a brutal life

To much to bear

Ended with that knife

Though there was one person

Just though they only watched

How else would I know…

It may have been ok

If someone asked to care

Or someone had cared to ask…..
