We are The Moon

A baby is born on a summer’s night

The moon is but a small new sliver

The baby cries to tell us she’s alive

She is welcomed to the world by the light

She survives and starts to growing

Learning words and how to walks

The sliver grows slightly more

Still it kisses your goodnight

We skip ahead to age two

When she starts to understand

The moon is further growing

And is slowly moving across the land

School is to start

Only her first year

Fear away from mother is in her heart

But the moon still watches near

It goes well and she does enjoy

All her new friends she employs

Now days go on and they start to learn

The moon wants to hear of it

It just yearns

School is over, yay for summer

She plays with all her friends

Over age five she feels alive

But now summer will end

Now at age nine

Where’s gone the time

She starts to really grow

Same as the moon does you know

Now age thirteen

A real hot scene

The real confusion starts

Not really knowing what she wants

She hurts inside and friendships change

All she tried to get has ranged

Its transformation starts from young to mature

The time has come for the world to nurture

Years come and she cried

So many events and people died

Just the nature of human life

The moons a quarter and the times are right

Sixteen years of age and she has some road rage

She just learned how to drive

Seventeen and feeling like a queen

But adult hoods about to arrive

Her friends change a lot and put heron the spot

But she did pretty well

Luckily over drugs and avoiding any thugs

She’s out of teenage hell

Eighteen and it feels like a dream

She thinks she has it all

A college let her in but moneys pretty thin

The moon’s closer to the full ball

She passes all exams and meets her fiancé Sam

Life seems still ok

Then he does propose and questions arose

Is he right? To the moon she says

Well 5th year anniversary and it doesn’t seem a mistake

She’s turning 29 and feeling really fine

She’s moving near the lake

Her baby is due to come soon

The moon watches still very soon to be filled

She’s in the hospital

It’s the 21st of May, her baby’s birthday

The moon greets him and sings as well

Paying bills, cheap thrills, and taking care of a kid

Things are nice with a family and all

She’s forty-one now and time has slid

Between her life and his

Her parents die and again she will cry

But at least she understands

The light of the moon brings comfort soon

Now its high above the beaches sand

It’s full now and smiling at how

She and it have come along

Its time and in their prime

Now only can they both slowly fall

One night while awake she goes out to the lake

The moon shines happy to see her sign

“Hello to you again”

And they sit in the night reminiscing right

Then she sees at age fifty-three

The moon is starting to go

It falls more and glows less

The new moon has to come sometime

Years go by of her precious time

And all her kids are gone

She’s growing old and wrinkles on her nose

Yet she keeps the love of him

Never to be alone, but the moon does groan

For it is halfway to anew

Though she fulfilled a life, she is feeling strife

She knows the time is soon

Times are past the moon of blue

Age seventy nine and towards the end of the line

She spends her final days at the lake

Just her and Sam going hand in hand

Nothing left to take

The moon is very slim and its light so dim

Soon it will be gone

She spends her last night with no fright

Her life was better than a love song

The moon fades completely out

And so does she

“Goodbye fir now my friend” she says

And in her final breath, “we will meet again.”

The new moon is tonight

And though she has died

She wont be forgotten

The stars are now the tears the moon has cried

A baby is born in the next nights dark

And the moon is reborn too

Cause she only died so another may be alive

And the cycle starts anew

It starts with that childhood prayer

I see the moon
the moon sees me
God bless the moon
and God bless me.

We grow and learn and walk and dream all by the light of that shining moon. I wonder if He ever feels any older.
