Chapter 2

Discovery

I didn’t know what to do, and neither did Amanda and Christina. So we all went downstairs and waited for my dad and Jennifer to get home from where ever they were. We finished watching to movie to pass the time as we waited. It had a good ending.

They arrived home about one thirty in the morning and were tired already; too bad we had to talk right then. We got him to the couch with Jennifer and started talking. We explained the whole story, from the window, to Christina, to the note and Rob. It was a lot to take in after a year of nothing major.

“But how would have he come back?” he asked after we finished telling. Jennifer was there as you know. She works with myths, legends, folklores, and all of that. You name something in one of those categories, it’s a guarantee she knew it. “Well, there was a prophecy of a sort,” she started, but then paused. And we all quieted the same. “Go on honey.” my dad said. “Long ago in Egypt, some one once said ‘all will perish one day for what they have done to one another. And the world will be gone. For everything once created, will be destroyed. There will be one who comes from the below, and will create things to destroy with. Then he shall make his world and rule it happily in evils. He will be a god, an invincible god. One day in the far future, this will happen.’ That is what he said and maybe that is what’s going to happen or is happening.” she said.

We were all amazed she could know all this. She was petty smart, but more important, it was a good start to work with we used. “Well it can’t be that because we got him last time.” Amanda said. “But he could be trying again…..” I said thinking out loud. “But if it really is happening again,” my dad said, “ then he must still have a weakness we can exploit.”

That about when the entire house started to shake and sway. We all got up and ran out to see what was going on. After we all were out it stopped. Everything was still. Then we looked up to see an orb that looked like it was coming towards out, just falling out of the sky.

Kind of out stupidity I aimed my gun up and shot the orb as it fell. It actually split in half and the two sides disintegrated in the air as they fell. But something inside that was released still fell. It wasn’t very large though, not much of a threat. It fell and hit Jennifer on the head. “Ouch! What was that?” she said, rubbing her head where it hit. “It looks like a scroll.” I said. She picked it up carefully and examined it for a minute.

“Wow, this thing is hundreds of years old.” she told us. “How would you know that?” Amanda asked. “Well, besides the look of it, it has a date from a quill pen written on it.” Amanda took it and looked. “257 AD…” she said quietly. “Considering today’s date and all, that scroll is well over 1,500 years old,” Jennifer said, “that means…” “This scroll has seen a lot,” I chimed in, “wow.” It was a very interesting thing to see, but peculiar.

“But how did it get here and why?” Christina asked. But no one had really anytime to think on it because of what happened next. The ground had a slight shake and a few feet away a hole started to form and sink in. Then something started to barrel its way up and through. It looked like a giant bud coming up, but after it had completely risen through, it slowly opened it self to reveal what it really was. A Grenarias plant, AKA, a man eating Venus flytrap. This one was pretty big.

It stood motionless, so I crept over to look. I go close enough to gently touch it. It almost looked fake, but then it started to twitch. Then thorned roots started to drill through and rise above the ground. About thirteen of them rose in a circle around it. They reached about seven feet long. Finally its head turned right and opened its colossal mouth. You could see the fangs and all the way into its stem where it put its meals.

It took one root and swiped my feet out from under me. I fell to the ground and didn’t even have time to get up before it took another root and wrapped it on my ankle and lifted my up upside down. It slammed me down once, which gave me time to work through that pain and fire a few rounds at him. They all went into his mouth. It did no good; in fact, he used them as a nutrient and grew bigger suddenly! Grenarias are very tricky creatures.

“Its too big! That wont do any good!” Jennifer yelled out to me, “hack at the root that has you!” That was helpful. I shot right below my foot and that damaged it to a thread of it left. I wiggled some and it snapped to free me. I tumbled the few feet to the ground and came into a roll then to stand up. I ran away from its grasp as it tried for me again. I went over to where everyone else was, just out of its reach. They may have been tricky, but they had short range.

“It’s too powerful now, there’s nothing we can do.” Jennifer said. “Apparently she didn’t know us very well,” I thought to myself. All of a sudden I felt a sway of woozy come over me, then I felt dizzy and wobbled some. I collapsed suddenly and with eyes half open couldn’t move. I struggled to get up or move or anything but couldn’t. So all my strength went to trying to stay awake. What was wrong with me suddenly? Was I ill or sickly? I lost my battle and went unconscious.

I don’t remember anything that happened after that, my senses weren’t even slightly helpful. It was just a dead black. I woke three days later. Three days! When I woke I was on the couch in the living room with almost every one surrounding me. I sat up slowly and winced for some reason.

Amanda hugged me as soon as she noticed. “Thank God your alive still!” she said. “Yeah…” I said, although I wondered why they didn’t take me to the hospital. I would never figure out why. “So what happened?” I asked. “You just collapsed, we don’t know why.” my dad said. “Well what about the Grenarias?” I asked. “Oh that, it just shriveled up and died to be honest.” Jennifer said. “I was so worried.” Amanda said as she squeezed tighter. “Me too,” Tj agreed, they all did really.

“How do you feel now?” my dad asked. Tj’s monkey jumped up on my shoulder. He was quite small. “Pretty good, just a little tired somehow.” I said. I yawned and stretched lazily.

To get way off course for a sec, my last name is Wilson, supposedly a name of power and smarts. What does that have to do with anything you ask? Well it’s the irony it holds in what happens next.

I started to rise off the sofa, but not on my own will, and more into the air instead of onto the floor. I wiggled a little trying to grab onto something, but nothing was there nine feet up. A loud voice with deep tones boomed through the house: “Bj Wilson! You are now thirteen and may possess the powers rightfully yours from your ancestors, specially ordered from the lord. Now you may use these to your likings, but know that this time was not just a coincident, the time has come to need these and you know what you must do. Be the wise one as you are call on again to save them all!” “Wait, why me again?” I called up to the ceiling. “Well, you did it once, you can do it again! Goodbye.” it said. “Wait!” I called again, “but how do I use them?” “Jeez, with your mind, bye!” Then it was gone for real this time.

I felt a jolt, and then dropped back on the couch. “Ow! He couldn’t have set me down gently?” I said. “Who was that?” Amanda asked. “Sounded vaguely familiar…” Jennifer pondered. “I knew it!” She yelled out, “one of the people who made the prophecies! It was him! Oh, I just know it!” She exclaimed.

“How would you know what he sounds like?” Christina questioned. “There are tapes of him when he spoke to selective others and I happen to have heard them.” “Ok, that’s good and all, but now what?” she asked. They all kind of threw around some ideas, but I dint pay attention. I was thinking too hard. Why was it me they asked for again? And the biggest thought I had was: will I really be able to save us all this time?
