Chapter 1

Learning the horrible truth

Hi, my name is Bj. I am fourteen years old and live in Z-town with my father only. I don’t know if I have any brothers or sisters, and my mom disappeared eleven years ago, I’d rather not talk about it, but that’s why I live with just my dad.

I have an amazing story to tell you of zombies and the devils son. If you like mythology and zombies with a side of adventure, you’ll absolutely love it. I live in a place now called Z-town. It use to be called Painesville until what happened a little over a year ago......

It was a bright and sunny day and I was on a huge rock in the middle of the river writing, where I always did. I looked at my watch and saw it was time to go back home. I jumped on the rock path and back to the side of the river. I started walking and wasn’t watching where I was going when I ran into a man in one of the fields. It was a man with golden eyes, white-blonde hair, and a shining silver suite.

“Watch it you little brat! You’ll see. All of you will pay very soon.” the man mumbled with a malicious grin. Then he strolled away. I didn’t know what he meant by that, and I didn’t really care either. So I just kept on heading for home. Little did I know I was about to go on a long, twisted, perilous journey of all lifetimes. If only I would have known.

The next morning it was a Saturday and I woke up at nine AM. I got out of bed and opened the curtains on my window. “Aw man, it’s raining!” I said aloud. I was hoping to of gone outside for a hike in the woods at the edge of town.

That apparently wasn’t going to happen that day. And there wasn’t much more to do in the summer than go outside, especially since my dad had left for a while.

The day seemed to drag on and go nowhere. Time went so slowly. As the day went on I only got more bored, there seemed to be nothing to do. They were the worst hours ever to pass! It was just one of those days. Nothing exciting was happening. I hoped something would finally, though.

Then some one knocked on my door. “Yeah!” I said in excitement. I jumped off the couch and ran to the door. I opened it and, no one was there after all. “Grrr.” I said. “Hello...........Hello?” I said once more, still no one there. I figured some one might have been trying to pull a prank, it happened all the time around there. Those darn gnomes, always messing with people. To my surprise it wasn’t a prank, because when I looked down there was a handgun and seven extra clips of bullets beside it.

I was shocked about it, but I still picked them up anyway. Now, I know I shouldn’t have considering I was only twelve, but I didn’t want anyone else or anything to get any ideas about it. We did have a nasty gang of goblins around who are just itching to find trouble. There was also a note taped to the gun. I ripped it off and read it. It read:

Dear son,

Please take this handgun and use it well for your protection. You probably don’t understand very much right now, but you will. I promise.

Also, there’s a tape on the VCR, watch it and it may help. Right now I am somewhere pretty far away from you. Please take good care of yourself and be very cautious. You can’t trust anyone but me right now; they could be with the problem. The winds have changed and something’s are going on. Goodbye for now, and I’m serious about all of this.

Love,

Dad

Millions of questions ran through my mind then, but there wasn’t anyone to ask them. I was alone, and that’s when I realized it. I didn’t know why I needed a gun. I was only thirteen! It was very strange. So I decided to go and watch the tape. I went to the TV and got the tape and put it in the VCR. I pressed play and waited for it to start. It was unbelievable to me then, just amazing!

It was a newscast about the government’s latest project in biological weapons. They were trying to use the dead as weapons, AKA......zombies. “It has been talked of for years, using the dead as weapons. But is it really a good idea? Well we have the facts!” the news reporter said. “What?!? Everyone knows that no one can control them, it’s just impossible!” I said aloud. It had been talked of around there for a while, but we all knew no one should mess with God.

There was another knock on the door, but this time it sounded like something was banging, hard. I paused it and went to the door to answer the impatient person’s obnoxious knocking. I opened the door to a scary creature flying at eye level in front of me. It was a bat with a human’s head on it! I had seen many creatures before, but this was unusual. You could even see the stitches on the neck! I was terrified.

I realized that I was still holding the gun. I remembered my training from when I went to a camp to learn these things, like how to use a gun, how to survive in the wild, and even how to escape a hostage situation. The last one I didn’t know why.

I raised my arm, aimed, and shakily fired the gun at the bat. The bullet pierced the bat and the bat exploded with green ooze everywhere. I quickly slammed the door shut and locked it tight. I frantically ran through the house shutting and locking all the windows and the backdoor.

I was too scared to look outside, so I went back to the living room to watch the rest of the video. “The Navy has been testing the idea for over ten years and has finally perfected it. It is a virus that mutates the DNA from a live person to a living dead zombie with no free will. But during the mutation process, a weird side affect happens. Military grade weapons and random items grow in their stomachs.

These objects are fully operational and, if able to be taken out, can be used. But a few weeks ago the virus vials were reported stolen. The police and other authorities have no leads and no clues. There have been reports of moaning, staggering, odd smelling people in the streets with limb or skin missing. They are zombies.

Precautions should be taken so no one will be hurt. The government advises everyone to evacuate the city. The ones who can’t should not go outside or near these creatures. This is declared a time of disaster.” The man finished.

I looked at the date in the corner of the screen, and it was only from three days ago! I looked back out the window and there was no one around. It was a ghost town. Only a ghost would be brave enough to be out in this time of disaster. “Now I know what the gun is for.....” I said aloud, “It’s for my protection.” I knew it had to be something serious if I needed a gun.

That night I couldn’t sleep, I almost didn’t want to. I was too afraid. I stayed awake until three AM with the gun close at hand. I listened to all the noises outside, most of them not human. It was unimaginable. I slept very, very little and extremely restlessly. Screams could be heard through the night.
