Chapter 53

One last event to tell

I hate to leave things unfinished or unsaid. So I have one last thing to tell that many may have wondered how it ended. I never finished the piece on the Wulfin tribe and the legend of me. I have to tell that the year later, the rest of that situation was made real. Let me tell.

It was only about a week after my nineteenth birthday in the middle the day. It was a slow day and we were all just sitting around in the living room on the sofa. We all heard a knock on the door. I got up and answered it. It was the Wulfin chief. “May I come in then Amber?” he asked humbly. “Sure, yes, come in.” “Thank you” he said, and walked in and sat down on the chair in the room with Sammie and Derek.

I was surprised that Kilala wasn’t with him. “Amber, I have to talk to you about something very important. It’s about the legend and you.” he said. “What is it?” I asked. He smiled, and then said, “we want you to fulfill it and live as our leader by my side. Not necessarily as my bride, but as a sharer of power among village and its peoples.”

That one shocked me. I had almost forgotten about the legend. And even the times I did think about it, I just ignored it thinking they would never do anything with it since it had already been awhile since they told me it.

“So you want me to be your partner in power to rule over the village then?” I asked so to clarify. “Yes, you see, I will not be around long. I grow old, and am weary. When I go away, I need ruler to replace me. I want you as the chosen one to lead with your mate Derek. Will you accept this once in time offer?” he said.

Wow. Me as ruler? I barely thought about it because excitedly yelling out, “yes! Yes! Of course I will! What do I need to do to become it?” I guess I still had questions to ask. “All you must do is repeat the secret leader oath over whole tribe at gathering. Can you do that?” he asked. “Yes, but when will we do that and what must I speak?”

He went on to explain as soon as I was ready he could call a gathering at minutes notice to indite me, and that he would write out spoken speech to give to me to memorize.

So later that day he came back with the paper to show how ad what to say. It was of course written in the Wulfin language, but some was in English too. I took days to memorize, working constantly to get it down. Derek, Sammie, and Kilala were huge helps to it, especially Kilala.

Four days later I was ready to go. I told the chief and about a half an hour later he had the whole village in front of a stage and podium of a sort, all of them excited to see me come to power with the chief. They all waited for me to come.

I walked up the stairs of the stage alone and faced the audience I had in front of the podium. Luckily the speech was actually pretty short, so I was confident in my speaking it. I cleared my throat and took a deep breath. Here I went:

Tribe of Wulfin! I beseech you to allow my power to reign in dignity, integrity, and honor! Let me rule in the best way I can! Let me be over you to watch and protect as a leader of the wolves and you people who gather before me! Ooh nih sho de how na! Tee yu sa poy koh selta! Ee bev geh foo ja! Chi choo dew som ga! Jur ju too yi hes dun loo soo kla! Let me rule well!

And with that, the crowd cheered. The chief came up and patted me on the back. “Welcome to power.” he said in a whisper. That was all there was too it. No more complication. I had more responsibilities, but I was sure I could handle it. I was empowered with my native people after all. I ruled over them and I was happy with it. The legend as true, I was a great leader as it said.
