Lock down:

I cannot be trusted alone

I woke up sometime later like I had just awakened from a dream, feeling better at least. I woke on my new bed in my new room in my new home. I sat up and scooted to the edge of the soft bed, wincing as I did. I set both feet on the cold uncarpeted floor and sat there on the bed.

I looked around and saw that the door to the treetops at the end of the room was shut, latched, and bolted shut. And I also noticed that the lock normally on the inside of the trap door to the second floor was gone too.

I stood up and painfully stretched, noticing the burn marks all over me. I just tried to ignore them. I took a few slow steps towards the trap door and fell like an idiot over nothing. It was almost like my feet were taken out from under me.

I sat back up and looked at my ankle. There was a heavy chain wrapped around my ankle and held there by a pad lock. The chain slithered back all the way to the pillar in the center of the room where it was tethered to. It was the same pillar in the room that held the entire roof up over the third floor. So I guess I was bound to the third floor.

I stayed on the floor and looked at my burns again. I wasn’t able to ignore them, for two reasons though: one, they hurt like hell. And two, they said the most amazing things I had burned onto myself. The things it said and stuff were a bit fascinating. My left arm said, “I feel like demons are inside me.” And then of course my right one said, “I do need help, but I will never admit it, I just can’t.”

They must have known by then. That’s why my family must have had me confined, for my own safety. I understood. I have been seen as “scary” when I get like that. This relapse wasn’t really that bad though. But I shuddered when I thought about how bad it could have been. I remembered back to the one where I was sure I was going to die. Now that was the worst one out of all of them.

I stood up again and looked around the room again. It did look good. I hadn’t really had a moment to look at my new room yet. It was a little under furnished though. It did so though have a small square table next to my bad at the top of it. Well, I guess it wasn’t too small; it was about two feet wide and four feet long with about a two-foot height. It was nicely shaven and finished oak with the natural swirls of knotholes and imperfections from the natural resource it was forged from. It was nice still.

It had three brown paper bags on it. Each one was labeled with a piece of tape with one word written on each. They were labeled: lunch, breakfast, and dinner. I guess they set out food for me too. I made my way to the nice new table to check it out. There was a note in an envelope marked with my name on it, but I ignored it for then.

I saw this table had a drawer on it underneath. I grabbed the metal handle and pulled it out for a peak inside. It was pretty big inside. It even already had some stuff in it.

It held a notebook with all my drawing supplies and all of my writing supplies. It had my PDO and all as well. Then for some odd reason it also had seven packs of playing cards as well. Why would they give me all of those? Like I had anyone to play with up there alone. Solitaire gets old after awhile too and the hell if I can build houses out of cards. Oh-well.

I closed the drawer and grabbed the bag on the table labeled ”breakfast”. It just had a few eggs, bacon and a container of water. Actually pretty good for a bagged meal. A kind thought I guess.

I ate fast and then grabbed the note on the table that was set out for me. I ripped the envelope open and unfolded the paper. I just skimmed over the words they had wrote:

Dear Amber,

Sorry about the sealed doors and the chain. It is all a little much we know, but we need you bound down to ensure your safety. All of us know all the details about your problem or condition or whatever you want to call it. Kilala and Derek explained everything about it they knew from what you’ve said and been through. Were going to get you help soon sweetie. We’ve left you all you need up there and even some stuff to do. And Midnights with you too, he’s hiding up there somewhere. We will talk with you soon and bring you what you’ll need for tomorrow tonight. Take care. Bye.

Love,

Derek, Sammie, and your mom

Take care, what did that mean? Anyways, that did explain a lot. I didn’t care and I really wasn’t mad either. But as the day went on, I had a lot of time to think. I thought about how much I had changed since I ventured off from home to the not any more mysterious wilderness. I was a lot different. Maybe it was because I was naturally maturing or it was the situations and experiences. Who knows? But what I do know for sure is I was better off in my forest home than living that lie of an old life back in town.

I know that that is a total contradicting thought from my thoughts at the celebration before I ran off, but now I know it to be true. Why live a lie when all I ever wanted was the truth?

The day just dragged on and I layed there in the floor. I didn’t have much else to do. I stared at the new wood ceiling. I wondered why no one had come to see me yet. I was gettin’ kind of lonely up there. Midnight just wanted to sleep. He growled every time I bothered him. I was up there for at least eleven hours and no one came. I had eaten only breakfast. I really did just lay on the floor right where I fell all day long, I never budged.

I eventually fell asleep on my back…on the floor…with all my limbs outstretched and the chain still around my ankle out as far as it could go. It was probably a really weird site to see. I was comfortable enough though. I guess the boredom made me tired, plus the fact that I was stuck in that room alone. I just fell asleep there, not to wake until the morning.
