Chapter 34

The unwanted truth

I woke up the next morning with Derek sleeping next to me. I didn’t wake him up. I thought he might have worked hard last night. So Kilala and me did what we had to do and then decided to go to the village and see how they were doing there with all the damages. We walked together and just left Derek to the cabin. He still wasn’t awake anyways.

We got there and saw something alarming. There were two groups in the middle of the village in the opening. Each group was on a different side off the grounds. To the left side was the Wulfin tribe, and to the right side, were the Drago tribe.

We ran over to the wulfin side of it and asked some one what was going on. “Chiefs are meeting over important matters. We know not of why, but we do know it not of peace.” a tall tribes man told us. We could hear them arguing in a large canvas tent in between the two groups. Kilala and me snuck over and stood quietly next to it and listen to what they had to say about what ever they talking about.

We could hear the Wulfin chief fine, that voice we recognized. The other chief was of the Drago tribe chief. It was a louder, deeper, scroungy voice. “We will not give you what you ask! I not care how bad you want It.” the Wulfin chief sternly said. “You will give it to us! We will only make more attacks! It is rightfully ours! You don’t need it! So why not give it to us?” the Drago chief replied. “No! She is ours care of! She would not to go and I will not let you just take her!” the wulfin chief said.

“Her? She?” I thought, “What are they talking about?” “This is your last chance before we wipe your guys out! She is suppose to come with us! Amber is ours! That’s why the drago tribe killed her parents so she would be forced to live with us! But you had to send her to the city! That was worse than giving her to us! You sent her to those outsiders!” the Drago chief said. “We stand strong.” The Drago was mad when the Wulfin said that.

“Her future abilities have been whispered on the wind. You know it as well as I do! Why waste the opportunity? Give me one good reason why we should not use this to our tribes advantage and for our good.” the Drago chief said shrewdly. The Wulfin chief thought for a moment about it. From what I could see through the tiny hole we looked through, it looked like he was calm and not worried at all. At least, he wasn’t showing it, not even a bead of sweat. He thought another moment, and then gave the best answer any one could have ever given. “Because she is still a human like us. She has her own will, and who are we to change that.”

Then he was red and furious! “Fine!” he yelled, “keep the girl! But we will be back! She knows the secrets deep within!” And with that, he stormed out of the tent. We still hid behind the tent as he walked past. He never even noticed us. He called for his men and they split their evil glares from the Wulfin and followed their commander away. Defeated, angry, and insulted by the chiefs stubbornness.

I honestly have nothing to say about what I heard. My parents killed by greed just because of me? What something to learn! I was speechless then, and still am now. What was I suppose to think? This man was a ruthless, heatless, cold-blooded killer and he didn’t even care because of his greed! I think I may have been learning too much. It may have been better if I never knew. This really was an unwanted secret.
