We talked for a while and heard a few experiences from each other too. It would have been rude not to. We were almost done eating when a voice echoed through the forest. “Kilala!” I called. “Oh, that must be dad. Believe me or not he is chief of our tribe.” Kilala explained. She yelled back to him out the door, “cooncha!” I had no idea what that even meant.
She saw my face and said, “cooncha means I’m here.” “Oh, ok.” I was still a bit clueless. Apparently I had a lot to learn still about them. He was coming that way and we just waited for him to arrive. Midnight and Sheilla were out luckily and I was safe from the devious pair for then.
The cabin door opened and the chief himself stepped in. He was a taller and thin man with the same skin tone as Kilala had, but he was powerful looking all the same. And of course he was wearing deerskin. He looked around at us for a moment and then finally spoke. “Kilala! Who are these dwellers?” Gee, some hello he gave. “Dad, these are my friends I newly met. They come from the city.” Kilala said as she stood in front of him.
“NO!” he said firmly, “this is not ok! This cabin does not belong to you! Leave now you earth destroyers! Go!” he finished. I stood there, stunned. I didn’t know what to do, but Midnight did. He sprang into the cabin and jumped up on to my lap. It hurt a little. He sat on my lap and licked my face. That stunned the chief to see. He paused a moment. Then only could apologize. “Forgive me young one. I did not know you were a wolf beholder. Do you know who use to live here?” he asked calmly, “it was a wonderful couple of the kindest people who lived here in peace with us and even had a daughter. Her name was Amber.” he finished.
“You knew my parents?” I said shocked. “You are Amber?” he said confused. I nodded. He stopped and thought about it for a moment. “Yes, your mother was almost from the city as well and came here whiles ago. But your father was a Wulfin tribe warrior that met her in forest one day. They spoke, and a year later, they married right here in the forest. But sometimes later, people came to them and wanted the secrets that we shared with them, and they refused. They sadly were killed for it.” he explained.
“Wow,” was most of all I could manage to say, “I did not know most of that. I thought they were both from the city.” “Yes, is all right. You are very welcome to stay, since this is your cabin, Amber.” he said. “Kilala! Come when you are ready.” And with that, he left.
I was stunned again to learn that my father was a Wulfin tribe member, and my mom was from Ireland as Julia told me. I was learning a lot about these thing since I came to the forest. It was too bad I would never meet them though.
Soon after, it got dark and was getting really late. I was going to go to bed soon and I didn’t want to just cast Kilala out into the night alone. “Kilala you are welcomed to stay the night if you would like.” I said. “Yes,” she answered, “I would love to, but where would I sleep?” “Um…on the couch, if that’s ok.” I said. “Yes.” she answered. I agreed too. I walked by Derek and whispered in his ear, “I guess that means you and me will have to sleep in the same bed.” He turned red; it was actually pretty funny.
I got dressed and blew out all the candles. Then I lay down next to Derek on the bed floor real close. It was actually pretty comfortable. I slept in the same bed as him for the first time.
It was nice to meet Kilala’s dad and to learn all those things that I never knew. I wondered what else the chief would be able to tell me. I would love to know more of my past. It was nice to finally know what happened by the memories of me, and things that seemed so mysterious when I first found out about everything. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
