We talked until we started to get hungry around seven ‘o’ clock. Unfortunately we both had to go hunting because my cabin was empty and so was her hut.
Kilala grabbed her bow and arrow case and then curiously followed me back to my cabin so I could get my stuff. I found an easier way to get back there of course. After you take the hard way there, you always find an easier way back. I found it after I made my ways through the densest thorn patches in the forest.
We got to the cabin and it seemed completely intact still. I opened the door a little and the hinges squeaked, then it just detached and fell to the floor. It hit the floor with a really loud thud and kicked up a cloud of dust from all sides from the force of it. I just watched it happened too. Didn’t even bother to stop it.
The fallen door revealed something too. There was a human in my cabin………it was Derek! I excitedly ran over to him and jumped on to the couch. He fell back and I was on top of him. I kissed him for the longest time on the lips. Then I sat up and stood up, and looked at Kilala, who had her jaw open.
“Sorry, I’m just a little happy to see him I guess.” I said. That was really embarrassing for me. “Well I’m glad you missed me. I guess I’m happy to see you to then.” he said in a bit of shock. “Why did you return? I thought you were leaving and never coming back?” I asked. That was the confusing part about him being there. “I just couldn’t stand the thoughts of being without you and leaving you here all alone.” he replied to it. “Aw! Sweet, a little too sweet, but still sweet!” I said
Kilala just stood there and waited patiently for us to be done. “Oh! Sorry Kilala. This is Kilala Derek. She’s my Indian friend. Kilala, this is Derek, my long-term boyfriend from town. He’s kinda staying here now.” I introduced. “Hoo Derek.” Kilala said with a bow and a hand in the air. “What do you mean ‘who Derek’?” he asked. Kilala giggled at the question. “No, hoo means hello in the Wulfin language!” “Oh, ok then.” he said.
Then I jumped in. “Anyways Derek, we came back to get my hunting gear. I’m all out of meat food in the cabin and we’re gonna go get some more. Why don’t you come with us?” I asked. “All right, sounds good. But first, I got you some lunch. Although it’s probably a bit cold by now.” he said, then handed me a white bag with a golden arch on it. “Ew! Gross! Fast food? Yuck! I don’t want to die early! Why didn’t you just get subs or something?” I said. “Jeez! Sorry! I’ll throw it away.” He said. Then he set it on the table.
I walked past him to the back wall in the corner. I grabbed my bow and my arrow case full of arrows, and then I walked back around him to the door. I walked out the door and Kilala followed. Derek did eventually too.
“So where should we go?” I asked. “Let us go down east, near the big waterfall.” Kilala answered. “Ok. I’m sure there will be a lot of deer over there right now.” I said, and with that, headed off. It was a pretty short walk, just a ways down the river.
I was right. There were a lot of deer. We huddled together a little ways away to make our attack plan. “Ok, let’s make a triangle. Then they can’t escape and we’ll just ambush them. Let’s get as many as we can, if we have extra, I’m sure your village can use any extras. Ok?” I said. They both just nodded, then carefully snuck over to their corners of the triangle.
I waited until they were positioned and signaled that I would shoot first and Kilala next. Derek couldn’t shoot because he had no weapons though. I lifted by bow and reached over my shoulder to get an arrow out of the case. I set the arrow on the bow and aimed with one eye opened and the other shut. You could hear the string stretch as I drew back the arrow with a steady hand. Then I let go.
The arrow sliced through the air and hit the side of an older deer. She fell over and died right there. But unfortunately, it alerted all the others to our presence. They tried to run, but we had them boxed in tight. And if they found someway out, Midnight and Sheilla took them down. We just had a fiasco with it!
I remember there was a huge pack of thirteen or fourteen deer in the little area. But it was more than before because the flood had grown the grass more and it was perfect for them. And perfect for us too.
Our hunt lasted about a half an hour. We just shot away. I managed to use all my arrows up and knew that meant I would have to make more soon.
Finally the hunt was over and we took seven! It was a good haul to me. Derek and me took three and Kilala also took three. Then you may wonder how was there seven? Well, funny thing, I accidentally hit a squirrel too. It was really an accident and I felt kind of bad.
Going hunting was fun sometimes. But it was hell to bring it all home. We each grabbed one and decided to come back to fetch the rest of them after we took the first three to my cabin. I decided not to take the squirrel. It’s not like we were going to eat it or anything. So we all grabbed our deer and started off.
I was so happy Derek was back. That’s all I thought about on the way back. We were all silent and it gave me time to think about it. My mind was covered in his name again. I loved it that he was making every thing about me! Things would have to be different from now on, mainly with me. And I knew this. He was so awesome. And I would gladly change just for him.
I really couldn’t believe he came back for me. I knew he really loved me, but damn! He went all the way to the town, that long journey. Then he came back just because he missed me? Me, out of all people he could have? I’m sure there are better looking and smarter girls than me. But no, he came back, for me. So he was back, I had a new friend and everything seemed it was going to be ok. I hoped.
