I woke suddenly when my mind had realized what had happened. I looked down at my watch. “Damn!” I yelled. It was three and a half hours later and I really wanted to make it to the clearing. I glanced over there and then turned my head back. I thought about how I was going to make it for a moment. Then I swung my head back around when I realized what I had seen. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t seen it before. It w as a blue grow in the clearing I wanted to get to.
I was wide-awake after my accidental nap, so I decided to try to navigate through the treetops. I shrugged my shoulders and picked up my backpack to put it on. I scouted around and found the perfect tree to start from. It had many knotholes I could use like ladder rungs. I grabbed hold of the trunk and thrust my foot into the first knothole. I pushed off the ground and started my way up the trunk.
I didn’t have much problem, although the bark was rough and sharp and I came out with a few cuts and scratches. I made it to the top and held a branch as I set my foot on the next branch over. Then I let go. The braches were so close; I didn’t even need to worry about falling through. I was too big! It was awesome!
I spent a lot of time looking around and exploring the top of the trees. It was way different than on the ground. I actually ran instead of walked. I couldn’t believe it. I was actually running in the treetops!
I went around stealthily until I found the best spot. It was a small area of the forest where the trees were even closer together than the rest. They were so close that the branches fit together perfectly and made a platform with no gaps. It was about a fifty foot by fifty-foot square, well, roughly a square.
I sat down and took out my notebook to sketch it all around me. I completely forgot about the blue glow for the moment. I had had most of the forest sketched and drawn out. A little hobby that I was good at I supposed. It was completely dark by the time I had finished. It was an amazingly realistic map that I was damn proud of. Any one who could draw a major map from memory would be too.
I closed my notebook and sighed happily. Then I glanced back at the clearing and realized that I hadn’t yet reached my goal! I shoved my notebook back in my backpack, stood up, and then was off again.
I took off again running around in the treetops to get my legs going again. I was sure I would be back at that spot in the trees again. It was awesome; I wasn’t able to get over that for a while.
I galloped over the way of the clearing. The blue light was gone, but it had been replaced a darker blue that was more beautiful than the old color. I wondered what was making that light. It almost seemed to flicker. I wondered if any humans could have been doing this that I didn’t know about. How could they have made it this deep in and through the trees too?
I was nearly there and the light got bigger and bigger as I got closer and closer to the source. It was so beautiful and had me captivated. I followed through and was almost there. I was finally going to reach the clearing. I couldn’t wait to get there. “What was that thing glowing?” was my only thought as I neared.
