Fear, Flames, and the Moon

Finally I regained my strength and was able to stand again. I was a bit wobbly, but I just used the chair as a support. I called Midnight over and he came obediently as usual. I strolled outside and just looked around in the cool dark air. I looked up at the full moon that was out on the clear starry night. It was beautiful with a little blue tint to it.

Midnight walked up beside me from inside. He raised his head and howled up at the moon. It sent chills spiraling down my spine and into my legs. It made me feel weird. It also made me realize that even though he was my best pal, he still was a dangerous wild wolf.

All of a sudden, a flamed spark started in front of me. It started to grow until it was there was a thin circle of flame around me. Then I saw the demons dancing around the outside of it in what looked like a ceremonial dance. I was really afraid of what was happening. I didn’t know what was going on. I thought I had escaped it, but I guess not. But still, I wasn’t about to let it take over my mind again.

I ran to the edge of the circle and thrashed through all the flames with a determined glint in my eye. I just started to run, to anywhere, just to away. I ran faster than I ever had before. It was almost like I thought I could just outrun, but I was sure I couldn’t.

I ran swiftly through the forest, avoiding trees in the full moon as my only light. Midnight ran beside me as we went through the forest. What a site to behold. A wolf and a teenage girl running through the forest at night under the full moon. It was cool looking and would have been better if I wouldn’t have been so upset.

After a while of hard-core running and painful lungs, I finally stopped at the riverside, far down from the cabin. I slid into a rock cave that was hidden underneath the ledge on the river. It was small, but it was dry at least and away from them. I sat there and pulled my head to my shaking knees and blanked my mind, trying to forget everything that just happened. But, of course, it didn’t work, it was too traumatizing.

I was tired out, physically and mentally. I didn’t want to go back to the cabin that night. I decided I would be safer in the cave than back at the cabin. I planned on sleeping there. My heart stopped racing and I could breath again.

Midnight jumped down to the cavern and made me jump a little. I almost smacked him because I thought he was something else. I don’t think he would have liked that. Definitely not. He slept at my feet and kept me warm that night. He knew I was really upset. We shared that special bond that few people and animal pairs can create. I loved him so much, and I knew he loved me too.

This whole situation was very, very terrible. I still didn’t know what to do. Even as I lay there and tried to sleep, my mind kept awake and working. I was like a child so much then, just as no parent to calm me. It was just so amazing what had happened that day, but in a bad way. I worried of it. I was so very fearful.
