Chapter 3: My new home and unusual friendA Chapter by Eyudoread to see
My new home And unusual friend After a night of mosquitoes and a bed of rocks, I got up and took a morning dip in the river a while and stopped the itching from the bug bites. I dried off and got dressed after I got out, then brushed my hair. I was going to explore the surrounding area that day. I wore my camouflage shorts and white tank top and black boots I had. I also had a hunting knife strapped to my leg, just in case. Even though I had just taken a swim, I decided that I was going to walk to the other side of the river and explore on that side that day. I barely lifted my arms above the top of the water as I waded my way across the river. I came up on the bank on the other side and shook some of the water off my clothes. I started off on that side of the river. I wandered around for a long while, mainly looking for food and vines to use. But what I found was much, much better. I found a thick patch of woods that didn’t cover too big of an area. I sliced through all that and found a small clearing, and in the middle of that clearing was a ring of tightly packed together trees. I could just barely make out what seemed to be something very large right in the center of it all. I circled it and searched it until I found 3 small trees I was able to kick down. It made enough room to let me pass through it. Then I saw what the object was. I was shocked and in aw when I saw what it was. But I was still very happy with it. It was an old style abandoned log cabin in the middle of the forest. It had a few bad pieces of wood and only half a chimney, plus it was covered in vines and ivy. It was pretty much run down, but was from then on, my new home to me. It was cozy enough. I took a look inside to see if there was anything still in there from the people before. It was pretty much empty except for a few pieces of raggedy furniture and a raccoon that scampered away at the site of me. I sneezed a few times from all the dust it had collected, there was just layers of it, it was almost gray in there! I flew back out the door and swam quickly through the river back to me campsite. I grabbed all that I could from there and carefully took it across the river over my head. It did so take me a couple of trips, but at least I didn’t have that much stuff to take. I was able to take the axe I brought and hack my way through the trees to directly through to the doorway. That way everything was able to fit through. I got the rags out of my backpack and wet them in the river, then proceeded to clean every inch of the cabin and all the furniture too. There was a couch, two fabric chairs, and an old-fashioned, homemade, wooden, rocking chair. They all needed to be dusted. When I picked up the big rug in the middle of the room and shook it, I had to leave the cabin for a while until all of it had cleared out. It was terrible! Then after that, I was completely exhausted and just plopped down on my recently cleaned sofa. It was soft and comfy. I sat there, peaceful and relaxed. I lay down for a moment and started to dose off to a well-deserved sleep. It was only noon, but I didn’t care, I could do what ever I wanted from now on. No one was in control but me. I slept until a loud noise out side suddenly woke me up from the light sleep. I wasn’t sure what the noise was, but I knew it was coming from outside. I looked at my watch and it was three thirty PM. I got up and rushed outside to see what was going on. I saw a small brown grizzly bear next to the cabin. It was trying to get something that was hiding in a crack between these two big rocks. It was really scratching at whatever it was; it wanted it to eat badly. I picked up a nearby stone and threw it at it. It just hit him on the nose. He lifted his paw to his nose and ran away, whimpering in pain and confusion. I slowly crept over to see what the bear was so vigorously after. I heard a very faint whimpering of fear. I peaked between the rocks to where the noise came from. To my surprise, there was a small baby wolf in-between there. I carefully reached between the rocks and gently pulled him out. I held him in my arms. He was a bit nippy at first, but then he settled down as I stroked his head. Believe it or not, he fell asleep right there in my arm, not a fear at all. I took him inside and set him on one of the chairs to let him sleep. I thought I would keep him as long as he wasn’t mean or violent. Then I had to do the chore of covering the windows. I took some old blankets and the tarp I had from the tent I made and started to nail them to the windows. I only had a small amount of nails and it would be tough. I thought if the windows were covered, then all the animals would stay out and also that it would keep it warmer on the cooler summer nights. There was a window on the right side of the door, and then there were two on the right side of the cabin. There was also one window on the back of the cabin and one on the left side. It was dark by then and I didn’t have much more to do in the cabin. It had been completely cleaned, fixed up and had its windows covered. I went outside real quick and took in a breath of fresh night air. Then I grabbed some of my firewood I had in a pile and went back inside and locked the door for the night. I placed the logs and would in the fireplace and started a fire to stay roaring for the night. I was tired by then and it was late too. I was ready for sleep. I got a blanket from the pile of what was left and placed it on the wolf. Then I went back over and grabbed a blue one for me. I set it on the couch and went to get dressed for bed. I wore my favorite pajamas made of silk. They were blue and shined in the little bit of light from the flickering fire. I lay down and covered up. Within a few minutes, I was out for the night, with a new companion in my life.
