The Shepherd KingA Poem by Anne KorhonenA Christian poem about DavidBefore you there was to rule big man Saul, though strong he was a fool yeah, he won many battles but in his greed he stole enemies' cattle though Lord our God forbade his impatience made his power fade away as he didn't wait for Samuel Satan won God in his heart's duel So God led the prophet to Betlehem and what did he expect he'd find? A man with strong body and mind but God looks deeper than man the righteous king rose from a small clan David the smallest of them all with bright eyes and smooth cheeks herding sheep Yes, him God wanted to keep Oh, Israel's shepherd king God's chosen one take your scepter and ring Oh, you poetic soul singing psalms myrrh and nard smell in your balms by God's love you ruled the kingdom and fought victorious wars by His wisdom but your romantic heart burned with desire it nearly turned you away from Lord, your sire And the spirit of God left Saul he lost his crown oh bad spirits made him frown So David was sent to play his psalms that made Saul feel calm oh, by those harp's heavenly tones bad spirits left Saul alone his court became David's home Though David was small he made strong giant Goliath fall only by his wit and stone but not all alone It was by God's grace he could kill lion and bear Saul figured that was kind of unfair So he tried to crush his innocent face Copyright 2017.
