Scared of Reality

A women feeling regret of her past and what they have caused in her life

 In reality I see a women 30 years of age

Mirror says 50

 

In reality I see size 17

Mirror says 24

 

In reality I see a husband

Mirror says boyfriend

 

In reality I see children

Mirror says signs of a once marriage

 

In reality I see laughter

Mirror says sorrow

 

In reality I see glass of wine

Mirror says liquor

 

In reality I see a home

Mirror says rooms

 

In reality I see a career

Mirror says a job

 

In reality I see friends

Mirror says acquaintances

 

Reality says satisfied

Mirror says aching heart

 

My reality is unknown

Living suck between a mirror and self consciousness

Finding no peace in thought or sleep

In desperation I fight anguished and tormented by both

Wanting, pleading, and needing to find own inner peace

I know one is my true self

Neither is what I ever wished for

The choices I once made came with the price I now will pay

I will fight eternally until the day I break free

Girl, you need a new mirror.

People see what they feel sometimes in mirrors. They see the worst or the best depending on their moods. Pick a hobby that satisfies you and try to make yourself happy. :)

I liked the way you pointed out the differences in so many things that affect people everyday though. (job vs career, friend vs acquaintances, self image)

A rather.... reflective note on the reality of things. Still rather harsh, however, but I'd rather see 'cynic' from time to time than someone who doesn't think the real world applies to them like it does everyone else. Good job

This is so sad. Regret is the worst feeling in the world and when a person lets it sit and grow. It manifests into an ugly beast and absolutely distorts reality. Wonderful write! The last part was the most intense for me.

Hmmmm... Really interesting piece. You may have done better than you should have in writing this, because now all I can wonder is where the real me is. What is reality? Whose perceptions make up me? or you? or anyone else? So yeah, I would call this a powerful and thought provoking poem.

This poem reminds me of the Queen and the mirror from Snow White but in reverse. We as individuals continue to put on appearance to cover up the truth, to only be left alone to deal with the selfish fallout. nicely expressed.
