Destructive Tendencies

Destructive Tendencies

A Poem by ExposedSiren
"

I am afraid of love because my if I let go, I will ruin it all.

"
I am Destruction incarnate.
You have spoken of finding the person to dance with at the edge of the world,
and the horizon for your dark days,
Of finding the smile to fight for.

I am sure it exists.

You have spoken of eyes that haunt your dreams,
and send you sparks across the room,
Of glowing orbs of light that pull at your heart.

I am sure its just out of sight.
You have spoken of the end of your search,
and a finality to the questions...
Of permanence, and a home.
Its waiting for you.
...and its not with me.

Someone asked me what I was looking for, and I think in the end, I only want honesty.

Kind of sad in a way but still feels like a beginning to me. Things end, they do all of the time but just as many begin as the ones that end. If we just reach out, there is no telling the beginning we will find as long as we toss out the ending. Really nicely done.

I really like this poem for the candid words. Not many would say it so outright. What's special is that the poet understands the needs and wants of the other person and yet understands that they cannot fulfill those needs. We cannot always be all those special things that we'd like to be, to somebody. Perhaps because it's just not meant to be. Great twist at the end.

Thank you. I think that there's beauty in realizing that everyone has that thing you're looking for.. read more
