In a Moment

In a Moment

A Story by ExposedSiren
"

Sigh...

"
She had fought dragons all her life, Battling them in the shadows of her day-to-day,
In her dreams while asleep,
In her heart while Just being...

They were relentless.

They followed her at every corner,
Mocking the way she walked and stepped,
Bellowing and roaring into her ears,
Her mind,
Her sight.

She shook with anger,
Tears of pain and desperation seen every time she trained,
Laughing over the corpse of every beast she had slain...
Until she found the biggest she had seen yet,
and swore she would bring it down.

Following every beat of his wings,
Every scorched tree and burned mark on the ground, she prepared herself fort his fight.
She planned every attack, every angle, as she worked towards her goal,
Preparing for the sweet taste of victory.
She smiled as she imagined what it would feel like,
What defeat would look like in its eyes,
The look of her fallen foe keeping her rising throughout.

She kept up this vigorous beat,
Not pacing herself, but rushing,
eager to finish what she started so long ago.
Here she was, ready to fight.
Ready to kill...

She steeled herself, Attacking, winning, until...

She felt herself flying, the earth falling out beneath her...
And as she was sinking, she began to float,...
And as she fell to the floor, she began to soar in the clouds.
And as her eyes closed, her sight expanded.

She had seen the armor of her foe glimmer in the sunlight, and had felt it force her back, rejecting her advancements...
Yet, the minute she thought she pushed through it, she realized that she had not pierced her partner...
No, he had forced his way through her armor, pushing past metal and leather, straight to her heart.
She had lost, her dance with this winged beast slowly coming to an end...
She flared with anger, staring down her attacker, her sworn enemy.. and soon rejoiced, for the moment his eyes had matched hers, she realized that he was no longer her attacker, but her savior.
She was no longer a victim, but a  blessed being,
Special, unique, gifted by this marvelous beast..
As he broke her stance, he granted her wings...
As her knees touched the earth, her face turned up and kissed the sky,
As her body fell, her spirit rose,
and as her eyes closed,
She realized that she could now finally see.
