Since when are doctors supposed to be clean people?A Story by OmAn expose into the widespread hygiene protocols clinicians fail to follow
Almost anywhere you go (especially in India) - even the premium institution AIIMS, doctors fail in bothering to wash or at least disinfect their hands between seeing & examining patients.
Take one of the leading dermatologists, Dr Somesh Gupta there. His fingernails were long & dirty...worst of all, after examining the previous patient, even upon politely requesting, he refused to disinfect his hands, despite the alcohol scrub sitting on his table, a foot away from him...fully filled, posed as an unusable masterpiece. He then asked the patient to leave, without treating them. He also spread rumours about the patient (along with his JR sidekick, Dr Saurabh Bhatia) that the patient was mentally unstable for asking so. Really shallow people. The double irony of this was that despite being a pigmentation specialist, he himself had moderate melasma/chloasma on his face. Furthermore, the patient was a psychiatrist themself. How a colleague can maltreat each other, worse than an uneducated labourer is despicable. They often impose their own deficiencies as an excuse not to treat patients' pathologies. How despicable... They just end up spreading even more disease this way...for all anyone knows, it looked as if a labourer was sitting in the doctor's chair! Ugh
