A brief insight into the surprising difficulty encountered in just obtaining a SIM card in India

"
Want a new prepaid SIM card in India? Apparently, even if you have an Indian passport, the companies still demand a visa proving you can stay in India. Shameful considering that foreigners are readily offered SIMs. It's all to do with where the passport was issued. Sadly these guys don't even know the meaning of a visa. Where does one go from here? Being punished for being an Indian - in India! No wonder our country never truly progresses when encaptivated in all this trivial nonsense. How will more important procedures be undertaken at this rate? Worst of all, many new SIMs suddenly are deactivated without any prior warning, typically after 3months. All remaining balance is lost & upon enquiry, the network claims that the number never existed & don't recognise you as a customer. We all know this to be untrue, as one must submit their ID documents along with photo & details when applying for a SIM. This is all linked with the SIM & number to monitor activity & as a counter terrorism measure. So what will it take to get these networks' act together? Some more terrorist events which involve their so called "imaginary" customers who they will never be able to trace? Their open dishonest denial of customer rights warrants action. Vodafone especially, as this brings the international brand into disrepute...what is the point of all these security measures? It is an unnecessary hassle & fails to serve the original intended purpose. In most other countries, obtaining a new prepaid SIM is as easy as just adding balance & away you go - no questions asked. Their intelligence & security agencies still monitor public communication, which is the most effective way to deter terrorists contacting each other via phone...why must India always make things pointlessly difficult...it is pathetic & shameful. Ironically when giving a reference for televerification, anyone can act as a referee - even the vendor who just changes his voice! Everyone knows the system is openly abused...so why not just honour those genuine honest people who need a SIM, instead of giving them the brush-off? Loopholes are always exercised in India anyway...so why is such a simple process made so difficult...even a driving license can be bought for a small extra "fee" through an agent...How about when one reports their SIM as being stolen, however the operator fails to act on the blocking request...in the meantime, some thief makes unauthorised calls from your SIM, which the network claims is your responsibility...when do they get anything right & why is their telecom license not revoked?
