Whether you read a road sign, municipal document, notice or merchandise in a store, sooner or later you'll encounter an inadvertent homonym. It's irritating & really gives a poor impression about our literacy on an international front.
In a major mall (I will spare naming & shaming it), incidentally which receives a large foreigner footfall, this was the sign on a joint notice by management & Delhi CISF: "Management does not take responsibility for customers personnel belongings" Two mistakes here - without intending to sound condescending, can anyone identify what they are? I think the government education sector needs a lesson in English. What are we teaching our younger generation? Pathetic. Worst of all, if one keeps reading such incorrect English, they'll forget what is supposed to be correct! It's already happening...help! Even the so called educated elite class suffers from this - doctors & some consultants at AIIMS hospital cannot converse or comprehend basic English.
