First class isn't always best

First class isn't always best

Premium services aren't often what they seem

Travelling first class on the Rajdhani Express: supposedly India's premium rail carrier - supper was undercooked & overly salty, not to mention laden with oil...toilets were dirty...staff wanted tips & charge extra for water! Then halted for over 4 hours just a kilometre short of our destination & had no courtesy to update & inform passengers accordingly as to the progress...the moral of the story is? Don't assume that spending more gets you a better service - far from it! There have even been incidents reported of rodent activity, where passengers have fallen victim to rat bites. Honestly, you call this first class...then what is Indian Railways' definition of "premium" service. Even standard class in other countries does not suffer from these problems. It is shameful that we are referring to luxury travel in India which falls short of the basic standards offered elsewhere at a lower classes of travel. Is hygiene & safety considered a super luxury? Even from an infrastructure perspective, they are lagging behind with no Wi-Fi or even courtesy announcement at least when there is delay. Travelling interstate leads to massive data roaming bills!
