COFFEE WITH SAMANTHAA Poem by DrDSamantha invited me to coffee And made it awkward to refuse So I made a series of mundane comments “Nice house” “Do you play the piano?” One was pressed against the far wall. “I hate winter, do you?”
And she was in agreement With everything I said And the slightest wit Brought long ripples of laughter. And none of her answers Invited conversation. I started to check my watch.
You would have smiled with “Nice house” And answered, “It wasn’t always.” “Do you play the piano?” You would have said, “No, But I know you do so you need to teach me.” “I hate winter, do you?” “I hate it more than you, let’s light the fireplace.”
Everything would have been different Only because you were you And Samantha is painfully Samantha And suddenly her face hardens As she realizes I am not succumbing And says, “It’s not working, is it?” While I smile and stand t leave. © 2016 DrDReviews
