THE MAIDEN'S REJECTIONA Poem by DrDNever pay homage upon one knee Nor offer gold with a stone to adorn my finger Ask not for what you already have For if you propose, I promise to say “No.” I need no tradition, law or church to endorse This feeling; the greater part of me. I will not be legally bound to what I freely give Nor do I need to secure you by oath or vow For I believe in your love and that it is mine And if it not be true, then mine will be enough For the both of us.
It is, I know, the desire and gentlest dream Of maidens hearts harboring fear and hope But I am not one of those, you see I am sheltered by your touch and glance As surely as bastion walls and wide moats And neither fate nor storm invades my soul With warnings of what all might become For I am the fertile garden of your devotion No harm may enter here while yet I breathe And no glistening stone shall serve as proof I am yours until planets tire of their journeys © 2014 DrDReviews
