A cove at Portofino

A cove at Portofino

A Poem by DrD

There was a cove near Portofino

Where neither tide or storm disturbed

And we would huddle before a fire

And watch the moody Mediterranean

“I sometimes wonder,” you said

Secure within my arms, pressed against my chest

“Were we made for this moment

Or was this moment made for us?”

And the answer was lost beneath the tent of night

Where sparks like ghosts of fireflies trying to be stars

Lifted from the fire and glistened against your eyes

“Are we selfish?” you asked again

“Seeing that there is nothing more than ourselves?”

And with that I knew the answer well and said,

“There is nothing more than you

And without you there would be nothing.”

There is a cove near Portofino

Where reverence dulls the tide to whispers

And ashes stain the grit and grains of sand

As testimony to a time that was

When moments were made for lovers

And lovers made moments remembered

Where they loved selfishly, ignoring life itself

In honor of something far greater

A beautiful poem. Good to find places where you can escape the world and know the peace of two people holding on tight. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

You will have many, I promise. Thank you, Ambereen.
...man, you made this come to life...surreal, a point in time that seemed to last forever. This had serious punch behind it. Stirred the soul...left me wanting of that moment for myself...Bravo.!

Such kind words, thank you.
This reminds me of 'some enchanted evening' in Portofino with the love of your life. You know the song doc from South Pacific? You're such a romantic and a lucky guy. What a love story. Brava. All I can say is, this is enchanting.

Beautiful picture you paint. I wish I had that in me but unfortunately I don't ...You are a very lucky man since we write what we feel and feel what we write... Bravo.

I am even more fortunate to know kind reviewers like you.
Absolutely exquisite! When there are moments as this, the moment is made for you so that its memory never fades. It is all lovely, but the words of the answer being lost beneath the tent of night where sparks like ghosts of fireflies trying to be stars makes one swoon!
Your writing is perfection!

You've done it again, my friend (if that's what we are, that is). Another incredible piece of work.

And this was very moving, might I say ;)
