A Mexico morning

A Mexico morning

A Poem by DrD

The mountains form their false horizon

Fitting into each other like lovers

Illustrated by moon shadows

Only the gossip of brooks to break their silence

Rectangles of light from adobe boxes

Somewhere an infant complains

And dogs make their circles before curling

Into the slumber of a Mexican night

In the morning will come the concert of commerce

The lechero chanting about teat-fresh milk

Songs of offering from push carts with vegetables

The panadero calls of fresh bolillos as the aroma

Of oven-hot bread haunts the air

These are the “good mornings” of a Mexican village

The alarm and welcome to a day of promise

Where nothing is important except today

Many of the men have gone north with fear and hope

And there is an abundance of women

In search of their idea of love, fierce and consuming

With raven-wing hair and dazzling eyes

They smile their invitation and lower their eyes in modesty

And life is beautiful beside the mountains

With the scent of campfires and leaves applauding from the trees

Where nothing is important except today

It's a great life when you come to realize that life is really just something to do
You painted a masterpiece. I will dream of such a place tonight. Thank you for the real fairy tale. :-)
Be well and wake to such a morning my friend!

I do every morning, David. Best move of my life. Thank you.
I am wondering if you purposely left out the roosters crowing and the serenades of firecrackers... or if there really is a spot so peaceful that the silence is undisturbed where you are. This was so real... the sights, sounds, smells- even the shy seductvieness of unwed girls. Perfectly drawn, like sketches in the morning light. Impressionist style.

You had me right there, until the last stanza....abundance of women? that may well sound like paradise to you, but I'll be going where the odds are better stacked in my favour, por favor. ;)

A most lovely vision of an idyllic slice of life you have shared...thank you.
