DistractionsA Poem by DrDYour thoughts take you
away from me To places I think I need
to fear And a cough, changing
channels, nothing Returns you to my arms In time your mind
moves back to your face And you force a smile like
an apology And pretend that all
is well That who we are is who
we will always be In other times you
would press against me Your legs folded
beneath you on the sofa The radiator rattled
and hissed And we could not hear
the television So we stayed together
beneath wool blankets With the heat turned
off and our arms knitted And believed we were
favored among all people Because we were simply
there --- together But now your trances
travel to distant places Where I have never
been and am not welcome And even though you
are a touch away I miss you I sense danger in your
distractions And my fears possess
me like dreaded demons Because you are the
greater part of me And if you go, I will
miss me, too © 2012 DrDFeatured Review
