Starting OverA Poem by DrDI went to dinner at Don and Ellen’s home They were not hesitant to tell me That there was a motive to their invitation I needed to get out more I needed to get back in the “swing of things” I needed to find someone and start over Maybe they were right but That was eight years ago Today, when someone asks me what I’m thinking about The answer is always you If they ask why I still waste time thinking of you I only thought of you once But that once never ended I walked in the park covered with the leaves of autumn And imagined each leaf was a reason I loved you And it was wonderful -- until I ran out of leaves They say, “But she left! She’s the one who left and broke your heart!” How can I tell them? All the small fragments still love you I may not have been the right one for you But I was never meant for anyone else Even if I dared try to find another us I wonder who would have me I went to dinner with Elizabeth She was talkative, fresh and
funny Yet . . . . her hair did not cascade
over her shoulder Her eyes did not glisten
against the moon She didn't talk to me about
running away To some land no one had ever
heard of When walking, she did not fit
well into my arm And she was intelligent enough
to know . . . . Will you always be the standard
of all others? You come to me like tears in
the rain The sense of you is mine alone
to know And you whisper from somewhere Saying that we never really
ended But simply started too late And I smile with the thought Wondering if it is true That we never really lost our
love We simply lost the forever part © 2014 DrDFeatured Review
