Chthonic Staircase

Chthonic Staircase

A Poem by ExhumedWindows

The whole world is catoptric like stars and spouses

Hide your thoughts in canopic jars in two-story charnel houses

Euphemisms only imprison you to funerals and wakes in a bubble

When the staircase steps shake free your life will be rubble

I am more than just anemic secrets you clot

I am more than just monsters you fought

I crawl like earthquakes under staircases

God has a caul so for your sake He is faceless

The whole world is xenophobic of ponds and mirrors

Seers would rather self-mutilate than admit to these fears

Attempt to ascend and each stair step will be quicksand in seas

Amend memories or tread wet in foreign lands without keys

The creator is faceless

And we are created in His image

Afraid

And full of self-hatred

That we take out

On each other instead

Exhume thoughts like a corpse

Let bed bloodstains turn red

All disasters have the purpose of cleansing

just another amateur writer. ideally, i'd like to expand the complexity of stock characters, especially in the genre of drama. obviously don't steal my characters, but borrow their "types" if it be.. more..
