Yes, but Harold and his Housecarls did make a grand fight of it. Swinging their great axes, they fought to the last man, and when the Normans sought to pursue the remnants of the English host, they stumbled into the the deadly malfosse and were themselves slaughtered. They don't have fights like that one anymore.

And when the mood catches, it could also alter the style or voice. Of course, Christmas Day 1066 was William's coronation. But the tales surrounding the occasion leaves room for speculation. And as it is in our day, there are stories from either camp and we are benefited to recognise that unchanging human characteristic. Some would source it back to Babel, tribalism and such. Glad it was enjoyable.
