NHL All-Star Weekend Is Not Worth WatchingA Story by Ellen PiehlA column about this past weekend's NHL All-Star eventsLast year, it seemed the National Hockey League got it right when the league decided to go with a three-on-three tournament, instead of a single All-Star game. Last year's tournament was successful to the point that CBC's Don Cherry decided to go to Los Angeles to watch the tournament. However, after the first three-on-three matchup, Cherry was disappointed. "They're (the players) are not even trying," Cherry said to his co-host on Coaches Corner, Ron McClean after the first three-on three game. The first game of the tournament ended 10-3. You know Cherry is no longer going attend another All-Star weekend. As for me, I've had enough of this. It doesn't bother me that the players refuse to body check. I understand that. It is the middle of the season and the players don't want to get hurt. The problem I have is that I find the goalies don't make an effort in stopping the puck. The games look really contrived (the results of games are all planned out). Honestly, the NHL All-Star weekend is not worth watching. © 2017 Ellen Piehl |
