Refreshing...A Story by Ewen A MorrisonKayaking, one June evening: off-shore in Argyll, Scotland... a long overdue experience, we both felt! ~ start text: 478 w.Kayaks (The current being current opposite to our course, of course, as luck would have it! ;) The central phase was particularly turbulent over and above the opposing current; anyway, the mid-phase passed comfortably while we journeying towards Ganavan beach. When we were almost at the beach area, Murray gesticulated towards a landing point, without further discussion, we landed and before long we were enjoying to a coffee, followed by a beer. My kayaking companion's a close personal friend, and equally close to my nearest and dearest family too... for instance, after I'd been in a motoring accident on February of 2010, Murray behaved exactly like one of our own family! Sometimes, our best friends can be as close as real family, if not closer? Anyway, psychology apart, we'll return to our little voyage. During our refreshment interval, we had the opportunity for some enjoyably relaxing conversation - we're seldom able to have much time and peace to fully express our rather off-beat view of life, although neither one of us could be described as 'day-to-day people', various circumstances tend to dictate one's behaviour... we're generally normal enough people. In some time, we were ready to set off on our return journey and although the sea conditions seemed similar, we had more favourable current this time with the current driving us along while returning. The middling area was every bit as turbulent as it was during the earlier passage - visual and physical evidence of the many peculiarities in dealing with the west coast currents in Scotland. Although we were paddling with that much more favourable current, the 'easier' phase of the journey, the easiness still had an element which was almost surprising! However, in what felt like little time, we were steering our bows towards the original leaving/now landing point. Like many good ventures, the whole episode happened and passed too briefly! We busied ourselves with our checking over and reloading the kayaking gear into Murray's excellent vehicle, which is his wonderfully modified camper-van and much much more besides! We are blessed to be living in Scotland... a blessing in its self, of course! Alba/Scotland is rich in the best conditions for boating/camping experiences. If we do not actively engage in these experiences, what kind of fools would we be?! © 2020 Ewen A Morrison |
