Living/breathing

We are more than the sum of our parts,
Living and breathing...of beating hearts.
Eternal existence - more than mythical
Thoughts and fantasies ~ really factual!

We inhale/exhale - evolution's charms,
More'n bibles/preachers: mind's farms.
Perhaps, we should respect the heart?
'Gut-feelings' * smointeachdainn part! *

* (smointeachdainn:  this word is in Scottish Gaelic, and is defined as 'an act of
 considering, thinking')

Hi Ewen. Your poem made me feel good about being alive. I really liked it. Now "smointeachdainn" is this a created word? Very interesting. I also loved the rhyming. The Gut feeling is often over taken by the mind when the heart becomes mistrusted. I love the saying "follow your heart". Thank you for this lovely poem. Blessings El

Well done, Ewen. There is a lot to consider in eight lines. We are more than the sum, we are bits and pieces of all those we have come in contact with. You touch on the myth of eternal existence with a clear perspective. Who are we to deny what we do not know. Good write

Love e, cho fìor.

And apologies for my rustiness. I am a mere west o Scotland nyaff who has had our own language battered out of him by it being not the done thing to speak in anything but english without a capital e when I was growing up. Look at us now, worked in the west end and everyone is trying to talk it because it is suddenly hip. Superb write my man, great job.
