Uncle Angus Morrison

Uncle Angus Morrison

A Poem by Ewen A Morrison
"

My Uncle was killed, on the same day that his brother, Roderick Morrison, was seriously wounded while they served with the Highland Division (HD) during WW2; both suffered on 5th June 1940

"

Uncle Angus, your first, is my middle too.

Uncle Angus Morrison, who we condone...

In this Summer-holiday, we'll salute you;

By your descendants, respectfully done!

Lovingly remember, you and 'brothers',

At home, or whenever we are abroad.

'Giving life, love & limbs for all others';

Thanking you people upon that road!

The World War -death and brother hit too;

the Highland 51st encompassed our clans...

injured, killed, number: more than 'a-few';

sacrifices and costs, to foil Hitler's plans!

Almost inconsolable, but bear in mind -

with many great tributes, fond salutes...

your expenditure, contested hat kind;

peace, "battle's-son " we ban all brutes!

Our family branch come in love/peace -

visiting your graveside, we and 'hearts'...

pondering you deeply, enjoying ease;

gratefully thankful for all of your 'arts'!
