The Sun of our Lives

The Sun of our Lives

A Poem by Evelyn Ohiomoje

At dawn,
Behold at the east;
The sun rises,
And the living
Rejoice at the birth
Of the new one .

When the day is young,
The child is full of energy.
And whilst the sun shines,
The youths make hay.
And men age,
As the day reaches its end.

At dusk,
Behold at the west;
The sun goes down,
And the living
Returns to the dust
Which they once were.
