Fault

Fault

A Poem by Finite
"

A revised and extended version of an old poem I wrote.

"

It's my fault,

I confess to the pain

Failed to save them,

I’m to blame.

I carry blame,

Heavy as a stone

Their fate sealed,

Now I'm alone.

Should've been me,

Caught in the storm's embrace

Now I go aimlessly,

Wandering helplessly without a place.

In the wind,

I'm a paper-thin leaf,

Flying to an end,

Drowning in grief.

I'm to blame,

Left them in the rain

Faults echo,

Driving me insane.

Stuck in my thoughts,

So full of disdain

Hear my song,

Desperate to shine through my pain.

Survivor guilt is a curious phenomenon. It is as though the survivor feels like he has stolen something from the departed and must atone for it through misery. Of course, such masochism will redeem no one.
