Bird

Bird

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

I cry out for you. You are not there.

"

I cry out for you.

You are not there.

I cry until

my throat burns and

all I am left with

is an empty soul.

I had so much hope.

My voice rose

in a sweet serenade,

but it was drowned out

by the low drone of despair.

I will never forget

that song of hope

you gave me.

It lifted my soul

into the high heavens.

On it soft and

white wings,

I could fly.

I was a cloud,

listless and free.

Somehow, it all changed.

The drone of despair

settled down all around me.

Grounded me. Punished me.

I felt guilty for all

that I had felt.

When I lifted my head,

you had disappeared.

Why did you leave?

I could not answer,

only surmise.

All that I knew

had been beautiful.

You made it even more so.
