Ravenna

Ravenna

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The loss engraves its name into my tender soul.

"

The loss engraves its name

into my tender soul.

What was once

is now never-more.

Her eyes of silver

haunted my waking dreams.

I could not believe

it was her,

my beautiful Ravenna.

She had left me

in an instant,

not a second left for breath.

The ailment was unknown,

but she refused to give in.

Ravenna fought against

the threatening pallor of flesh

and the weakness

that came with standing.

Sometimes, as she said,

colored dots fluttered

over her vision before

she followed with a faint.

My young bride,

of only two months,

did not survive.

My young heart yearns

for what it can

never have.

My dear Ravenna

is gone.

dear e.v. black,

this work is absolutely stunning for my love of Poe.
Honestly, this is the first Poe poem that I have read in my contest, and I am pleased with this submission. It spoke to me immediately from the title, "ravenna." The title represents the beauty of of a woman; a raven. I have a soft spot for them because they are very misunderstood.

"The loss engraves its name

into my tender soul."

the loss

has a name

and it was not

n e m o

"never-more"

I like how you included this well known phrase. It is relaxing and soothing. Thank you for adding it.

"eyes of silver"

very beautiful.
it is the c o l o r

that wards off werewolves.

from my own personal perspective, the raven and the wolf are excellent romantic partners because the raven is commonly dark and the wolf is commonly light. it is balance.

"waking dreams"

Waking dreams are beautiful; it is the illusion that makes the reality of Ravenna even more beautiful.

"My young bride,"

As a Raven, I understand that this is the most sacred unions of love of "two months."

i feel for you
and Ravenna.

she was love.

I was deeply mourned by this :(

The Raven loves you.

love,
ria

It's my pleasure.
This is a stunning piece filled with morning and loss. When a loved one is taken so early on it is tragic and can make the soul grieve. You have done a spectacular job on conveying this thought and Poe is one of my favorite poets of all time.
