Needless Desire

Needless Desire

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

There was no need for such a desire.

"

There was no need

for such a desire.

Though logic whispered to her

in sinuous and sagacious songs,

another, evil plant

had taken root in

her mind.

Its roots weaved through

her mind’s crevices

and held on for dear life.

Not even logic

could remove its hold on her.

It entered because

of a curious taste

she had taken.

The one who was already

imperfect became

poisoned.

As the toxin spread,

she cold feel herself

slowly losing her mind.

She tried to rid

the nefarious force,

but it would not budge.

So, she lived on

as a poisoned one

until someone else broke her

from the toxic hold.

She lived once more.
