Lovesick

Lovesick

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

Why is it such a beautiful sickness if so many suffer?

"

These mortals crawl

and pine

with begging eyes.

Bless their souls!

they have been afflicted

with the disease

of humanity’s folly.

Their thoughts are obsessive

with the one notion:

to infect and to be infected.

Yet, why is it such

a beautiful sickness

if so many suffer?

At the hands of others.

At their own hands.

They love, but so much

remains unrequited.

To remember all memories

of love’s pleasures

would be painful.

Is the only cure

to forget?

Or must they die

to erase their suffering?

The reason for infection

is to spread a disease

that may truly kill

those who have been infected.

The risk of lovesickness

is a price that some

willingly pay.
