How Lucky

This night I write

of mulled things I have thought

for a while.

I write here not

of dark things,

of gore or horror,

but of the real.

 

What is real

is truly beautiful,

and many do not realize it.

For me, it was a sudden realization,

sure as a shot to the head.

How lucky I am to be alive!

How lucky to be born to love.

How lucky to have undergone

difficulties to reach this point.

How lucky to

be able to write,

empathize with others,

have friends and family,

and to be human

and be all that other animals

are not.

How lucky, and I am thankful.

Author's Note

I know it's a few weeks late, but I wrote this for Thanksgiving. I wasn't able to post it due to my schooling. Here I am now! It will be a while before I can post some more because I have to write it. Of course, I haven't written anything really since this (I wrote this on the day of Thanksgiving).

I hope all of you can find the same thanks for life as I. It's beautiful, and I do think that no one should be without that beauty and happiness.

I couldn't think of anything else more beautiful to be thankful for. Sometimes I believe we have to just stop and look around and it is then we find an appreciation for the small things that matter the most. Wonderful writing!
