Teen

Teen

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The journey of self-discovery is a long one...

"

Who are we?

Who am I?

Are we others

or are we ourselves?

A s**t-filled,

angst-stricken,

confounding world

through the eyes

of a generation longing

to accept and be accepted.

The journey of self-discovery

is a long one

where we walk

paths of pins,

tread woods of thorny words,

and climb difficult obstacles.

Some of us may not

reach the end,

but many of us will.

We just have to

keep going.

We aren’t children.

We are children.

We aren’t adults.

We are adults.

We teens aren’t just

cliques, sex, and pimples.

We see as

children and adults,

yet we are more.

We are us.

Brilliant! Isn't it amazing that no matter how old we are we think we are older but inside our minds seem to stay young?

As a father who has borne the brunt of 4 teenagers I totally relate to what you're trying to get across as the balancing act of treating the child as an adult but also the adult as a child for one should never wish to leave behind their care free years too quickly as you will only be left disappointed as adulthood sucks the big one. Love the poem Eve now where's the Poe stories and the kiddie mix candies as I am still a child at heart. Keep em' coming
