Inflamed

Inflamed

A Poem by E.V. Black

A great fire within me

burns brightly.

When they threaten me,

the fire jumps to life

and rages beautifully.

Calm me, O words of pen.

Allow me to find solace

in your lovely voice.

Let me calm this flame,

this fire within my soul.

My emotions are dealt out

in numbers like

cards of a shuffled deck.

I spit out words of hatred,

which are foul-tasting specimens

on my tongue.

I clench my fists

as my teeth clamp together.

Help me, O words of pen!

Help me to soothe

the savage spirit within me

that wants to savor

the taste of blood

upon my tongue.

"Help me, O words of pen!"
The "O words of pen" part really speaks to me. It gives the essence of writing more of a personality than to say "I write because it makes me feel better."
In fact, within the context of the poem the art of literature has a sort of divinity. Such grace. You have taken a great cliche and made it into a masterpiece. Well done!

this sounds like the prayer that was in my heart the other day when I wrote On the Shores of Creation. I was so angry and filled with bitter resentment because I had found that someone had stolen around 100 of my pieces of work and published them as their own. I begged my pen to help me find comfort and to be able to write words that comforted my soul. I love this one...........
