I Thought

I Thought

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

I thought you were different.

"

I believed in your eyes,

in their light and purity.

No matter how much

they had darkened,

I kept hope that

you were the same inside.

I believed in your soul.

That it was

a true human heart,

balanced with good and evil.

Your words,

never once did

I scorn them to

your face,

though I hardly agreed

with what you said.

I believed

and I was betrayed.

Dear one, here I thought

that there was potential

within you.

You don’t see it yourself;

it is life.

I offered you

the tools to guide yourself,

but you shunned them

and got your own.

I thought you were different.

I must have been wrong.
