Unfair

Unfair

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

Why are you unfair to me?

"

Why are you unfair to me?

I did nothing to you!

Around you I’m not filled with glee

and feel I don’t have a clue.

Why can’t you keep quiet?

Or keep your words to yourself?

You’re never a riot

when you tease me and tell.

I’m in an endless wheel

day after day.

I can’t believe it’s real.

It hurts me, what you say.

You feed off my pain

and my woe.

You don’t care if I retain

an unhealthy glow.

I enjoyed reading this rhyming quatrain. You rhyme very well and none of your rhymes are forced or slant. I believe this poem would be much better if it was metered. Remember, all poetry should be recited aloud, especially your own. A good way to learn meter is to start with counting syllables. Each rhyming line should have the same syllable count. After you feel comfortable with that, you can vary the syllable count with stressed and unstressed syllables. Use Shaksphear's sonnets as an example, they are almost all penned in decasyllable except those ending in feminine rhymes in which he used hendecasyllable. Here is a good tool for your poetry bookmarks: http://www.uncg.edu/~htkirbys/meters.htm

You have the heart of a poet. If you prefer I not give you advice, please let me know. lOL, I'm new here on this poetry site.

Love,
Amera
