Part IA Chapter by E.V. BlackIt glitters, shimmers, the sun amongst the water. It looks like a purple flower, burning brightly, blurred by the sea’s depth. She sits in her garden, thinking and loving his face. The pearly statue stares at her with a frozen smile on his face. She glances up, longing to peer from the waters of her home and gaze out amongst the human world.
Her sixteenth birthday… how joyous. She yelps and grimaces as her grandmother pins oysters on her tail. It throbs, but the pain is soon forgotten in her excitement to visit the strange world above. She swims upward, her trail propelling herself as fast as it can go.
What she sees dazzles her eyes. The vast ocean is spread out around her, the sun glinting off the water as if it were a mirror. She hops onto a grey rock, thinking about what to do. She spots a wooden vessel. Curious, she leaps off and swims over to examine it.
A party is taking place. She looks around from the window. The humans wear glittering clothing of many colors. Someone draws her attention and she stops her gaze on him. Her heart lurches. He was handsome with chocolate brown hair and eyes like honey.
Scary storm clouds gather as thunder splits the silence. A bolt of lighting strikes the ship, setting it aflame. Screams could be heard as she sees the humans panic. At first, she is ecstatic that they would join her in her world. She thinks again. Concern clouds her face. That means…he would die. I won’t let him! This thought encourages her. The ship begins to sink. Humans jump from the ship, white others piled into boats. Her human was nowhere to be seen. © 2011 E.V. Black |
