The Truth

The Truth

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

I'm facing the truth now.

"

I can’t believe this

is like this.

Extracted so suddenly

before I could say

“good-bye.”

I wish I knew

what to say before

I go.

And what is it I feel?

Loneliness and sadness

at the thought of

not seeing you, my friend,

ever again.

Desperately, I wish

not to be parted from you.

The thought lingers,

as penetrating as a sharp knife

slicing flesh.

I had avoided it

as much as possible,

but I can’t now.

I’m facing the truth.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
Much has been going on in my life lately. If you've read "The High Board," then you'll understand what I'm talking about. That was only half of it. The other half is loneliness. I'm entering a new stage in life where I'm leaving the ones I've gotten to know so well. I'm...lonely. And sad. But now I've accepted it. I'll be in contact with them.
I'm not so afraid anymore.
