Serenity

Serenity

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The peace that comes with the first snow.

"

Falling…

Serenity here in the arms of Winter.

Sweet kisses of snow brushed the

eyelids of many who watch.

In the midst of war,

the fighting comes to a stand-still.

Peace comes for once

to a dying world.

Falling serenity,

making the dull brown earth white.

Not a whisper is heard.

Each snowflake comes

to rest upon the ground.

Silence becomes our beings

and we are grateful for the

momentary pause from a

busy day.

Serenity rests in the arms of Winter,

upon her gentle white hands.

Stone freezes in sight,

animals hide for warmth

and survival.

Serenity graces us here.

In the warm embraces

of our loved ones

do we flock to.

The Winter outside seems

to melt away as

joyous laughter rings clear

around a blazing fire.

Whispered voices within the white,

soon broken the next day.

Serenity disappears,

slowly fading away.

Falling snow,

the gray clouds depart.

Rebirth and ice.

Serenity will come again.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
Freshman year of high school, it snowed outside. The school let everyone out early because of it. The first snow, for me, transforms the world into a silent, still place filled with so much serenity. To me, it's found nowhere else but on the day (or night) of Winter's first snow.

Tell me some of your fondest memories of winter's first snow! :) I'd love to hear them.
