The ThornedA Poem by E.V. BlackThey understand each other.Like a rose, your very thorns rise out to greet me, piercing me with neglect and regret, but...I don't feel anything because I, too, am like you... lost and lonely in an unfair world.
Your thorns may be poisonous to some, but not to me. I've felt what you have, seen what you've seen, though through two very different pairs of eyes. Please...don't cower away from me... I just want to be there for you and to love you always.
Please...stay... don't go...
I feel your hesitant arms wrap themselves around my waist from the back. Even though I can't see you, in the dark, I know that you're there, loving me, too.
I now find you in front of me, the shadows shrouding most of your face, but I'm still able to see you clearly. You tower over me as you lean in to press your forehead against mine. I feel a flash and then I sense something oozing from my heart...pain...
"Now you know how I feel always..."
"No," I replied, touching his cheek softly with my hand. "I've always known how you felt because I've felt it, too."
"You know it."
I nodded earnestly, looking straight into his eyes just as I did it.
He nodded, too, and touched his forehead against mine once more. I knew then that we were both part of...the Thorned. © 2011 E.V. BlackAuthor's Note
