The Watchers

The Watchers

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

We are the Knowers.

"

I see you,

you don't see me.

I watch you

from within the

Shadows, quiet

and withdrawn.

I watch the world

as it passes by.

I write about what

I know,

what I see,

what I hear...

it's the World.

More of us join together

to share our personal

thoughts on everything,

We are separated,

randomly born among

each and every generation.

Nobody sees us.

We stay back,

hidden from view,

to observe and to write.

We all know and understand

more than we should.

It's our gift,

our curse,

rolled up into one fate.

We know who we are.

Do you know?

We are the Watchers,

we are the Observers,

the Ones Who Know.

We are the Writers,

the Artists,

the Poets.

Born into this world,

some develop their seed

while others nurture it

in different ways.

We choose to see more

through our eyes no one else has.

Only we have them.

We have wisdom often beyond

the likes of our years,

our young ages.

We see the pain,

the suffering,

the empty hate and rage

that fills each and every

person.

We see the warmth

Love can give,

we can see what it

can take away,

what it makes one sacrifice

for happiness.

We are the gray

in a black-and-white

world that knows boundaries

and lines most don't cross.

We are the ones who

challenge and cross them

ourselves.

We aren't evil,

nor are we good

because we are both.

We are the Knowers,

the ones who have

knowledge and great intelligence.

Notice us,

dare love one of us,

you may find what you

like...

but you may also find

yourself condemned by others

in the process.

We continue to watch the

World.

But we are more than

how we appear...

Author's Note

E.V. Black
This was written for us writers. We see so much, so much more than normal people do. Often we are the forgotten ones and the ones with greater wisdom. Maybe not all of us, but most of us.

You have just managed to convey what I have never been able to put into words before. For once, I feel understood and respected; not only as a fellow writer but as a dignified human being. I believe that this poem is going to have to go into my favorite section so I can return to it from time to time. I'm hoping that when I feel alone in this world, you'll remind me that I'm not the only who shares this profound mindset. Thank you.
