Red Thread

Red Thread

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The red thread of fate binds her.

"

Moonlight shimmers

and bounces off the

crimson threads that crisscross

over and over.

A web of deceit.

A web of fate.

The heart of the web

pulses with the natural life

of a human girl,

consumed by her burning thirst.

Stretching taut over her throat,

the crimson web slowly chokes her.

Those red, red eyes

open a small fraction.

Her blood boils;

she longs to kill.

The threads constrict her,

claiming her for themselves.

They thirst for the

thriving hatred inside us all.

Slowly, the threads burn,

ignited by a dark hellfire.

Humming life itches

for a way out,

scratching at her throat.

Her insides burn,

wanting release.

The hatred spirals out

from the depths of her chest

and swallows her whole.

One by one,

the threads snap,

quickly giving up

their claim on her.

Eyes fall dim

and she becomes

the servant of

her own hell.

Once again,

the crimson web sets

its trap for another

unsuspecting being.

Waiting and waiting.

Wanting and wanting.

While the red thread of fate

pulls us all ever closer.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
In Asian mythology and religion, the red thread of fate binds all human beings together. It is very similar to the Three Fates weaving the tapestry of life from Greek and Roman mythology. This particular poem was inspired by the anime Hell Girl. It is about a girl who is bound to send one thousand souls to Hell before she can free herself and the village where she was born that she killed in spite. Hers is a deeply sorrowful, resentful, heart-wrenching story that makes one wish that she could have been shown the justice she rightfully deserved.

Please enjoy. :)

Wow, such a powerful write here.

Eyes fall dim
and she becomes
the servant of
her own hell.

Love this part, and weaving the web all over again.
Very nicely written.
